Child Admission Policy
As part of the ongoing review of the pool programme, in order to become more family friendly and in response to customer comments and suggestions we have undertaken a review of our Child Admission Policy.
Current Policy
All under 8’s must be accompanied by a parent or an adult (18 years or over) in the water in a ratio of 1 parent/adult to 2 children. For Fun Sessions the ratio must be 1 parent/adult to 1 child.
For under 5’s and non-swimmers the ratio must be 1 parent/adult to 1 child at all times.

Swim Aids
Are required for weak or non-swimmers (e.g. armbands, woggles, floatation vest etc). Suitable swim aids are not available for loan but can be purchased from reception.
Supervision
Children must be supervised at all times, in the same pool as the accompanying/supervising Parent/Adult.
The D Pool is designed to build water confidence in younger children or individuals with their adult/parent(s) for the purpose of water awareness and who would benefit from a safe, fun and playful environment.
The Leaner Pool is only for weak or non swimmers.
Finesse Swimming Standard Award
Hatfield Swim Centre operates a child admissions policy in line with risk assessment guidelines for the safety of children, particularly children who cannot swim. For those adults with children under the age of 8 who meet the criteria of the Finesse or ASA/ISRM Pool Swimming Standard Award, the policy is varied to allow an adult to accompany an additional child into the pool.
Criteria for the Finesse Pool Swimming Standard Award
- Jump from the side into water of 1.5 metres so that the head fully submerges
- Then, tread water for 1 minute
- Then, swim 50 metres in under 2 minutes
Please Note: That the test must be undertaken without a pause or break. The cost of the award is £5.00 (including a Verified Certificate and a Finesse Rewards Card with photo). The test will be offered to all under 8 children on our schools and private lessons swimming programme. In addition, subject to availability, the assessment can be undertaken during the following:
